How long have you been an Entrepreneur?
Since 2002
Did you leave a job to become an Entrepreneur?
Yes
What is the name of your current project / company?
Low-Key Hobby
Please describe for us in 1 sentence your current project.
To record as many of my songs as I can in my lifetime to cement my legacy!
Where did the idea of your current project come from?
From my endless desire to create music while following my own path.
Why do you do what you do?
The truth is, to feed my selfish needs. I do this mostly for myself, not for fame although fortune would be sweet. I do it because for years I felt it was unattainable, I thought and talked about it for so long and now I’m finally doing it, I’m proving to myself that I am capable!
What’s the one thing you wish you could go back and tell your younger self?
To NOT let the fear of ” possible” rejection sway my decisions. It held me back for years. You can’t please everyone all the time so work on pleasing yourself and the rest should fall into place!
What’s the most important piece of advice would you give to someone just starting?
Perseverance is everything! Being in charge of your own income can be terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, especially at the beginning of your venture. Rome was not built in a day and it was not built by one person, sometimes it takes a team, so surround yourself with worthy likeminded people and you can do great things. However, nobody will ever care about your own success more than you do so you have to be at the forefront leading the charge and they will follow. Lead how you would like to be led, be honest, have absolute pride in what you do and if you want respect then give it. Karma is a beautiful thing!
What is the hardest thing you have had to do regarding your business?
First off, deciding to start a business and second telling a friend, my past employer that I was ready to go out on my own.
What does your typical day look like?
Up at 7:00 am , take my son to school, go to work renovating, pick up my son at 5:30, spend time with my family then usually work on my music business after they’ve gone to bed. There is always something to do with promoting, writing, recording or researching etc and this is mostly done between 11pm and 2 am. I am a bit of a night owl. I play hockey once a week all year round and try to get out fishing as often as I can.
If you were to start again, and could change one thing, what would it be?
Easy, I wouldn’t have waited until I’m in my thirties to start chasing my dreams. Youth is a gift, use it!
What is the most important thing in life?
Family, health and being true to yourself.
What is one problem you encountered as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
Renovating for a living is just dealing with surprise problems on a daily basis. Some days are worse than others and there are many factors involved. First off there is the actual problem you have to contend with as well as your clients reaction to” said problem” which generally revolves around their needs, budget and desires. It’s my job to stay calm and present them with several solutions. Every job is different and you have to be flexible and accommodating. Experience, common sense and ingenuity are three of my biggest assets, if you take care of your clients they will take care of you and you can sleep at night knowing you did the best you could with what you had to work with at the time.
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I’m currently experimenting with prototypes for another small business making one of a kind artistic objects out of raw wood. What can I say, I LOVE to create stuff!
